The definition of re-inventing yourself means; "to become a different kind of person". People want to re-invent themselves because they are tired of the narrative that follows them, whether it's contributed by their family or it's in the hands of social media. Sometimes it's even in the hands of your peers, especially when it comes to going to school, I learned that it's usually the time that people decide to re-invent themselves, because you start to go through a lot of changes, some people get into fights, some get bullied, some build reputations good and bad. I believe it's important to re-invent yourself, because it's always better to become a better version of yourself, especially as you get older and with social media helping out, people create new accounts for their new person. Even in that process some people get rid of social media all together because of how it brings a negative impact. But it is definitely important to re-invent yourself even when it comes to gaining new friends, it makes it easier to put the phone down and connect with your peers.
