Reckoning: The Value of Information and Its Availablity

The past is always a concern for people because it is something that they cannot change. Or can they? The NYPD sure tried to in some online Wikipedia articles on cases of police brutality. Staff members within the NYPD tried altering cases such as Eric Garner's and went so far as to completely delete the entry of the murder of Sean Bell. This was obviously done in an attempt to better the NYPD's relationship with the public by trying to cover the severity of cases in the past and/or delete them. Much like a bad ex, they'd rather forget.
Speaking of exes, should you have ever posted about your past relationships or any relationship? An article in "The Cut" explains why the author personally does not. They questioned whether relationships should be content on social media and after consulting some experts found their answer. Having a visible profile picture with a partner or displaying a relationship status is perceived as a more satisfied relationship than those who do not. Those who do not are high on attachment avoidance in relationships. It is also speculated that not posting could be rooted in fear, but under-sharing today was the normal amount ten years ago. Both a doctor in the article and the author agreed that there is something special in keeping details of a relationship private.
Both articles are concerned with how and if certain information should be shared. The NYPD and the author of the second article agree that the information in their respective article's should not be known, but with very different intentions and results. However, they both display the value of information and how the availability of information changes its value.
