To go off on something different technology goes hand and Hand with social media. Nowadays we can connect all our technology with one an another, so you won't lose any progress. Meaning if your phone dies while you are on twitter you can go on your lap top and resume your scrolling. It may be advance, and we see it as good but it very distracting to everything. Social media is a place where you interact with all your friends without physically interacting. To some sense it is phone being in their life without the baggage of being there. To adults it's addicting it becomes second nature to cruise through all social media without thinking. One minute you are on Facebook and the next you are on Instagram flipping through photos. Not realizing the time or what you were doing. Getting off social media because we all know it is addicting. In my opinion, I do believe if we didn’t have smart phones, we would have a similar device that would look like a smart phone. If not exactly, it would be something small, compact, and easily accessible. My goal for when I pick up my technology ranges. Depending on what technology I am picking up, depends on my goal. If I pick up my smartphone, one of my main goals would be to communicate, distract myself with social media, play games, or find quick information. If I pick up my laptop, I am more likely to be looking for articles, doing homework, researching, or to watch Netflix. I do believe that technology is designed to distract people, but I don't believe constant marketing is bad. I understand the constant posting may get annoying, but is it hurting someone? Maybe. Maybe someone's feelings could get hurt if the advertisement is going against their believes, but then that's just it. Everyone has different beliefs, you're never going to satisfy everyone. There is always going to be someone trying to bring you down.
Let's go on to technology and I want to talk about gaming
consoles. This is a big issue with a lot of people and how it is
harming/distracting. Kids just want to go home and be on their Xbox or
PlayStation. They get the chance to play solo or with friends online. You get
online and get in a party with all your friends and not even realize how much
time has passed. I believe, because you are having a great time. Your friends
mixed with a great game you can play for hours equals hours of your life gone.
I say gone not in a bad way but I'm a way where all your surroundings are not a
problem. To give an example there is a game called ark survival. It's a survival-based
game where you go around collecting stuff to build a base to survive. That
sounds fun but where it gets interesting is the in game time. Most games in
game time usually goes like 1 minute in the real world equals an hour in the
game. Well in ark survival the in-game time is legit and hour. In this game you
can take dinosaurs, who doesn't want to tame one, but it takes actual hours
away. You can take a T-Rex, but it takes up wards 12hours. This is crazy
because all that time is wasted on a game of fiction rather than the real world
of progression.
If that is not a distraction I don't know what is. It is one
of the games I have played that has been a complete consumption of my time.
Another game would be 7 days to die. An hour in game equals one-minute real
world. Doesn't seem like much, but the days are 24 hours which means 24
minutes. You are so into the game you don't even realize how much time has
passed. I sometimes don't even realize that days have passed in the game,
because it's a game which is fast! Three passed days in game equals an hour of
my real time and I'm having so much fun I want to keep playing and killing
zombies! It a big chunk of time that distracts me from the rest of my
responsibilities. It is also co-op which means I can play with one other
friends or multiple. After the co-op hours would pass by and I would even
realize it because it is extremely fun!
I put into perspective when I'm playing some of these games
my mind is with the game. Sometimes I wake up and start playing the game when I
have days off and not even realize I haven't eaten. It's when I get off the
game that my stomach would growl and advise me that I am hungry. The crazy
thing is as soon as I take a break from the game my body goes back to normal
and lets me know "hey dumbass you are hungry". That's is a big
distraction not only to the outside world responsibilities but to your own self
good. I'm not saying playing games is horrible, but moderation is the key to
not being distracted. The average person usually doesn't want to moderate and
play when they want to play! Unless I'm extremely weird and that only happens
to me!
