How Ralph wreaked the internet and how you can too!

I’m Gonna Wreak It!

Don't you just love when we can combine one of our favorite films with this blog's concepts and what we talked about in class? I love Disney and I have especially been a fan of Disney's Wreck it Ralph and Ralph Breaks the Internet. We go on an adventure in Wreck it Ralph 2, with Ralph and Vanellope as they enter the modern world and learn some important internet lessons. To save Vanellope's game, they need to rely on the internet to purchase a steering wheel that their game needs to keep playing in the arcade AND what better way to find the missing part they need? Curious to know, on eBay! So, they are getting into the internet and learning some marketing lessons along the way.

The first lesson is that you have to stay on the trend, or no one is going to pay attention. When you fall behind, the brand is going to die and no one is going to care enough to know who you are or trust you. Ralph learned how to get early on the popular trends and take advantage of them before the competition by determining what the long-term and short-term craze was going to be. Ralph also realizes that it's hard to keep up with those changes so he ended up trying everything and anything to make content better by understanding what the viewers want. He looked at social media platforms to see what the users wanted, famous accounts, see which post got the most shared and looked at feedback from the audience.

Hey look ma, I made it!

Now Ralph needed to figure out how his videos can go viral. There were some criteria that needed to keep his audiences engaged by keeping his videos no longer than three minutes as about half of the viral videos are about that long.  He also discovered that some advertisements have a high viewer rating that allows the algorithm to reward uploading based on consistency, relevance, and time-watching, so he uploaded videos that fit in all those. Usually viral videos are funny and they hit you with that element of surprise and laughter. Ralph did the craziest of videos to reach the top spot and it certainly did work. I'm 22 and, watching this movie, I cracked up more than once. The longer you can hold us interested the more you can know just as I remembered this movie and how it fits perfectly with this week's concepts. Normally, when we can engage others, it increases the "shares, likes, comments" that allowed him to make money to save Vanellope's game. It wasn't all good, as most videos, you can make some fun, entertaining content but it doesn't matter if you send them to the wrong place.

What better way then pop-ups to go viral! They are annoying but persistent in my experience and that is the beauty of it! Such pop-up advertisements are in your face making it easy to get around and explored. Ralph finds that more content-laden pop-up ads typically have a higher conversation volume. To get people a reason to look at it, the headline has to be clear and direct, and we don't have to think about it. Any kind of social media craze needs some kind of personality to create interest. This film definitely taught me some digital marketing lessons and it is surprising that this movie was made for children! It's no wonder most kids are tech-savvy. All in all, I thought the film was a lesson for all ages. The film does an outstanding job of portraying the Internet and keeping it relevant for years to come.

I’m not crying, you’re crying!

I've always been an Anime lover. I love the emotions, one minute you could laugh the next you could cry and I like to think I'm not alone... you know, like it's normal to be attached to fictional characters and that's why I love watching reaction videos from people who react to some of my favorite anime. It's fun to prey on others feelings. These are extremely popular videos but why? Videos of reaction are not necessarily funny or long, but emotion are acknowledged as I described it! The understandable feeling is what establishes such connections with each other. It's essentially understanding how they feel at that point, and living through it. Typically, we're pleased because we know what's going on and are comfortable with the emotion in the video when activated. I'm so guilty of falling down the YouTube hole, but that's because most channels know how to relate to people and re-experience what I felt watching that particular anime for the very first time. It's like telling my friends to watch this anime and wanting to see what they thought about it, and see if they care about it as much as I do.

To put it simply, I find it entertaining to watch other encounters that I like regardless of whether the response is positive or negative as it is humorous most of the time! It's insane to think we can create a social bond with people we've never met, just know you're never going to be alone.
